- Alabama corporation formed in 1981 by
visionary business leaders
- Began Purchasing efforts in 1992
- Current Membership composed of prominent employers
in Alabama
- Created to provide a format for local employers to
share information relating to the costs and quality of local healthcare
benefits and services
- Evolved into a healthcare purchasing coalition
- Negotiates healthcare related benefits and services
on behalf of its membership
- Represents over 90,000 member company employees

ECHO membership is available under four categories:
- Purchaser for
any employer with 100 or more employees within Alabama
- Product Only member
with 2 or more employees within Alabama participating in one or more of the ECHO endorsed services or
products.
- Provider of
services such as development, provisioning, statistical evaluation or
management of one or more healthcare related products, benefits, services,
or treatments
- Vendor providing
an endorsed product to ECHO members
